14th Silk Road International Film Festival

9–15 November 2026 · Trinity College Dublin · Silk Road ON DEMAND

Welcome

The Silk Road and beyond

Welcome to the 14th Silk Road International Film Festival.

For fourteen editions we have brought films from along the Silk Road and beyond to Dublin. This year's programme moves from Luxembourg to Bangladesh, from Mexico to China, and back home to Ireland.

We open on Monday evening at Trinity College Dublin with the Irish premiere of CHILD, Cyrus Neshvad's story of how far a parent will go to save a dying son, and Luxembourg's submission for the 99th Academy Awards. Two more Irish premieres follow: About My Mom on Tuesday and Glorious Summer, shot on 16mm, on Thursday. On Friday, our International Shorts close with SRS (Silk Road Songbook), women's voices singing across five countries, and on Saturday morning New Irish Shorts presents thirteen new films, many from student and first-time filmmakers.

We are also delighted to welcome BAFTA and IFTA-winning production designer Anna Rackard to Trinity for a free masterclass on Wednesday evening.

If you can't join us in person, most of this year's films stream on Silk Road ON DEMAND from 9 to 15 November, including features and documentaries you can only see online, from The Blind Girl and an Elephant, winner of a Golden Goblet at the Shanghai International Film Festival, to Texas Ollie. And our new Film Club keeps the festival going all year.

Thank you to every filmmaker, volunteer and supporter who makes SRIFF possible. Enjoy the festival.

Why the Silk Road

A road of many routes

For almost two thousand years, the Silk Road was not one road but a web of routes across Eurasia, carrying silk, spices and gold, and with them languages, religions and ideas. The German geographer Ferdinand von Richthofen first gave it its name in 1877. UNESCO's "The Great Silk Road" programme now celebrates it as a route of dialogue and mutual understanding between cultures, and SRIFF takes its spirit from that: films that travel, and the conversations they start.

Luxembourg's official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards

Dir. Cyrus NeshvadLuxembourg202678 minEnglish, French, Luxembourgish and Russian, with English subtitles
Cast: Brigitte Urhausen, Anne Klein, Jules Werner, Lydia Indjova, Malik Zidi, Dmytro YaroshenkoProduction: Cynefilms

From the Oscar-nominated director of The Red Suitcase.

To save their dying son, a father follows his wife on a mysterious journey where instinct eclipses morality, and the promise of life reveals the monstrous edge of a parent's love.

Luxembourg-based director Cyrus Neshvad, of Iranian origin, has made a realistic horror film with no supernatural monster. The horror comes from us: from privilege, from what wealthy nations take from the vulnerable, and from love itself.

Content note: themes of child illness and death.

Belt and Road Film Festival Alliance

Part of a network of festivals from Dublin to Shanghai

SRIFF is a founding member of the Belt and Road Film Festival Alliance, a network of film festivals and film institutions set up by the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2018. The Alliance brings festivals together to share films, exchange ideas and build cooperation between filmmakers in its member countries.

SRIFF is an IMDb-qualifying festival and is officially recognised by the Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA), so Irish films that screen here can be eligible to enter the IFTA Awards. Each year, one Irish feature from the festival also has the opportunity to be selected to screen at the Shanghai International Film Festival, without a separate submission, as part of the Belt and Road Film Festival Alliance.

This year we are delighted to welcome a delegation from the Shanghai International Film Festival to Dublin, from 9 to 12 November, as part of our continuing exchange with the festival.
