PRESS RELEASE
10TH SILK ROAD INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL Press Release-
The Silk Road International Film Festival (SRIFF) is held annually in Dublin, Ireland.
This year it will take place online from the 17th to 22nd of December
Since the festival’s inception in 2012, SRIFF has been a unique gem in the Irish film festival scene with its passionate celebration of diversity. The festival unites a collection of films from countries on the ancient Silk Road trading route, which traditionally connected Asia to Europe. The festival has become an annual tradition that brings different cultures together through a mutual passion for storytelling. SRIFF turns the typical Irish film festival on its head and really gives film lovers something totally different.
The film program offers a variety of different stories and voices from filmmakers around the world, which have been carefully curated and selected by our programming team for audiences to discover. Inclusion and equality are a priority for SRIFF as we strive to create a memorable fun-filled experience for everyone attending.
The festival was created by brother and sister-producing duo Carla and Delwyn Mooney and friend/creative designer Steinar Óli Bjarkar Jónsson, Over the course of a decade, they’ve shepherded the festival from humble beginnings to international renown. The festival program offers a range of features, documentaries, animations, shorts and music videos, and has had masterclasses from internationally recognized talent such as, Director Abel Ferrara (King of New York, Bad Lieutenant, Pasolini, Welcome to New York), Director Béla Tarr (The Turin Horse, Satantango), Cinematographer Vittorio Storaro (Reds, The Last Emperor, Apocalypse Now) and Cinematographer Mahmoud Kalari (A Separation), and Editor Tony Kearns (Black Mirror, The End of the F***ing World).
This year the festival is evolving its approach and will be held exclusively online in a virtual format. Highlights to look out for include the empowering Algerian drama ‘Soula’ directed by Issad Salah, the tense Chinese drama ‘A Man of The People’ directed by Xianhe Lei, and the magical and heart-breaking animation ‘Fall of the Ibis King’ directed by Mikai Geronimo and Josh O’Caoimh. But don’t forget that there are lots more amazing films at the festival so if you’re curious sign-up and give it a try.
